Malaysia Airlines is flying high
17 August 2009
Malaysia Airlines has announced record profits and a place as one of the world’s top three performing airlines - all in one bumper quarter.
Malaysia Airlines has been named as one of the top three performing carriers in Aviation Week and announced a quarterly nett profit of RM876 million*, in its second quarter, the best-performing to date.
The profit, the award-winning carrier’s highest-ever recorded, was boosted by an increase of 10 per cent in domestic load factor (up to 66 per cent) and an 11 per cent increase internationally, bringing the load factor up to 65 per cent.
This achievement, made even more remarkable given that the world is in the grips of a recession, has been recognised in Aviation Week’s industry-leading rankings and competitive analysis. Its annual Top-Performing Companies Study, which this year placed liquidity and financial health as the top indicators, listed Malaysia Airlines amongst the top three performing mainline carriers for 2009.
Malaysia Airlines Regional Manager for UK and Ireland, Syed Abdillah Aziz comments: “Malaysia Airlines will continue to move onwards and upwards; we have already increased capacity for the domestic sector by six per cent and in 2010, will take delivery of a new B737-800. The 29th October 2009, marks our move to Heathrow’s improved Terminal 4, where First and Business Class guests will have access to Malaysia Airlines’ new and luxurious Golden Lounges. There are exciting times ahead.”
