American Airlines unveils oneworld aircraft
28 April 2009
As a way to increase awareness of the 10-member alliance, American Airlines has rolled out a Boeing 777 aircraft sporting a special oneworld Alliance exterior paint design – the first of four aircraft to receive such treatment in the coming months.
The new livery is also part of the celebration of oneworld’s 10th anniversary in 2009. By the end of the third quarter of this year, American plans to feature two Boeing 777s, one Boeing 767 and one Boeing 757 with the oneworld look.
Each of the 10 oneworld alliance members is participating in the oneworld livery project and when completed, more than 40 aircraft operated by oneworld members will be painted worldwide. Other alliance members include British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN, Malev, Qantas and Royal Jordanian.
The striking new livery features the oneworld name in large letters that are more than six feet tall, with American Airlines placed below the oneworld name. The oneworld logo appears on the side of the fuselage against American’s familiar polished aluminium skin. The tail remains the same – the AA logo in blue and red, separated by the trademarked eagle symbol.
The Boeing 777 aircraft will fly throughout the American Airlines network to any of 16 different airports in the U.S., Europe, South America and Asia where the 777 serves American’s customers. The specially decorated aircraft first arrived at London’s Heathrow on Tuesday 28th April, operating as flight AA51 from Dallas/Fort Worth and later departing as flight AA57 to Miami.
“American Airlines is delighted to unveil this first aircraft with its special oneworld livery,” said Don Casey, American’s Managing Director – International Planning.
“oneworld has some of the best airline brands in the world and the alliance’s focus on quality, innovation and service clearly shines through in this oneworld livery program.”
