Navigators & General launches low cost boat insurance cover
8 April 2009
Navigators & General (N&G) has launched a low-cost, Third Party only insurance policy to provide basic protection for those with boats not requiring fully comprehensive cover, against the cost of damage to surrounding craft.
The new cover is designed for boat owners that use inland waterways, marinas, harbours and boat yards, where third party insurance is becoming an increasingly common requirement.
James Roberts, Head of Navigators & General commented "Third party damage is becoming an expensive and growing issue for some of our customers. We've seen increasing instances of boat fires which have destroyed four or five other boats in the same yard, and weather-related claims where the wind blows the owner's boat into those close-by causing significant damage and therefore cost for the owner. Having insurance is also a condition of most mooring and storage agreements, so we wanted to provide low cost cover for boat owners who are simply looking to lay their boat up in a yard outside peak sailing season or whilst it's up for sale."
Mr Roberts continued "Boat owners using the inland waterways have to have a boat licence which requires third party insurance as a minimum - something most people are unaware of until they arrange a licence. We launched this insurance online to enable boat owners to arrange this cover cheaply and conveniently in the same office they purchase their new or renewed licence."
The new policy also provides pollution cover which is rarer in third party policies. Pollution cover pays for the clear up and removal of the owner's boat if it sinks and causes an oil leak.
The product is available online at thirdpartyboatinsurance.co.uk (for UK boat owners) and policy features and benefits include:
£3,000,000 liability protection against passenger or third party claims
up to £15,000 cover for wreck removal and destruction
cover against pollution related costs and fines
cover whilst using other uninsured boats
others being able to use your boat with your permission
direct access to claims team and underwriters
no costly survey requirements or costs
E Mailed expiry reminder
Policies are arranged and renewed online, but customers can contact N&G directly with any queries for requests for extensions and an immediate decision, avoiding the uncertainty of being uninsured. Quotations can be obtained on-line in a matter of seconds and the system has been specifically designed to provide the documentation and evidence of insurance required for boat licence renewals, and where evidence of third party insurance is required by a yard, marina or boat sales company.
